I have been celebri-shamed many times by people when I share how I meet celebrities and/or find inspiration from them. But if anyone criticizes my decision to drive 12 hours in one day to get a book signed by this powerhouse woman, they aren't looking in the right place for inspiration!
I couldn't put down "You're Never Weird on the Internet (Almost): A Memoir" once I started reading it (**cough cough** the first week it came out). I knew a great deal about this Renaissance Soul known as Felicia Day, but there was so much more I didn't know!
This YouTube pioneer also championed women in the gaming world and stuck up for the treatment of women during fan conventions and Gamergate. She is the kind of celebrity that puts her fans first and is wise beyond her years. We can all learn a thing or two about life from Ms. Day.
The fan turnout at her event was amazing! I spent three hours in line at Boswell Books in Milwaukee to get my book signed and get a chance to speak with her. It looked like she had at least three more hours of signing after me as well. I had a blast meeting fellow geeks in line and she really made it a point to try to make a personal moment for every fan.
Besides her diverse interests and pursuits, my favorite trait of Felicia's is her willingness to go out on the limb and try something new. She really embodies Steven Tyler's motto of 'Fake It Till You Make It.'
Thank you so much Felicia for taking so much time for your fans!
