On May 15, 2017 AIGA Minnesota presented a sold out screening of the The Happy Film hosted by the film's creator Stefan Sagmeister. He took some questions after the film.
I expected the film to be eccentric and one of those 'experiences you glad you did.' But to my surprise the film was truly beautiful and an examination of the happiness and pain that come with living life. It was far more than a visual journey concocted by a designer. It was a journey taken by a designer.
It was a great night and a privilege to meet such a truly talented designer. He designed my favorite Aerosmith album Nine Lives and it really inspired me as a child. The artwork was full of controversy and one of the very early examples of cultural appropriation controversy. But man I just loved it! The idea of one image inside another was a higher level of artistic concept that I had ever seen at that age.
I highly recommend seeing The Happy Film and it may just help you rethink life, love, and happiness.
